Arguably the two most famous places in Africa, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater are yours to experience on this amazing journey. The Serengeti National Park is the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unrivalled in its natural beauty and biodiversity. With almost 15,000 sq km of endless rolling plains, the park teems with wildlife - from the tiny dik-dik to the magnificent African elephant. The equally impressive Ngorongoro Crater is home to some 30,000 animals and you won't have to travel far to see them. Roads in this region might be unpaved and accommodation very basic but if you have a sense of adventure and want to experience some of the most superb game viewing in Africa, then this will truly be a week to remember.

Why not combine the classic of Tanzania with the incredible off the beaten track of this diverse and wonderful land. Hiking through villages, visits to the Galopogas of Africa, boat trips spotting hippos and crocs and an amazing remote island hideaway. (YSB)
Day 1 Nairobi
Get ready for this Serengeti safari adventure.
Day 2 Kisii
Travel westward across the breathtakingly beautiful landscape of the Great Rift Valley to Kenya's fertile highlands. Stock up on essentials in hilltop Kisii - this is the last stop before journeying into the wilds. Famous for its soapstone, you might also like to pick up a few hand-carved souvenirs while here.
Day 3 Lake Victoria
Put tastebuds to the test at a tea plantation and learn how humble green leaves are turned into fragrant blends. Experience the untamed wilderness camping on the remote shores of one of the world's largest lakes.
Days 4-5 Serengeti National Park
Undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, the Serengeti National Park is a haven for African animals. Embark on early morning and late afternoon game viewing safaris through its savannah grasslands and hope to see cheetahs, leopards or gazelles. Safe and sound in a tent, drift off to sleep with the sounds of nocturnal animals in your ears.
Day 6 Ngorongoro Crater
Birthplace of human ancestors, Olduvai Gorge is an interesting place to explore. Continuing to the campsite on Ngorongoro Crater's edge, stop to admire the stunning sight of rolling grasslands thousands of metres below - few camps in the world have a view better than this.
Day 7 Mto Wa Mbu
Take a 4WD into the crater to catch sight of the prolific wildlife, including elephants, rhinos and lions. Camp in the market village of Mto Wa Mbu and maybe bargain for some ebony Makonde carvings or brightly-coloured Tanzanian fabrics.
Day 8 Nairobi
Travel across open plains and through Arusha, a beautifully-situated country town, on return to Nairobi.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.

This trip was fantastic. Travel in Kenya was very difficult at the time and our tour leader (as well as cook and driver) performed incredibly well. Will definitely reccomend this trip to others. They seemed constrained in terms of what they could do (both from Intrepid and the conditions) and they delivered a brilliant trip (notwithstanding the conditions). We missed Lake Victoria due to the political situation but saw everything else. Moses and the others were great. Sometimes we were a little in the dark as to the plans - though I got the impression that the constraints on them seemed to constantly change so this was very diffficult for them. There were a couple of times where we seemed to be required to do things / where things were not covered due to Intrepid requirements which seemed to be unnecessary / unhelpful and it would have been good if the tour leader had been given more scope in this regard (e.g. coverage of meals (which seemed incredibly minor but was a pain to deal with) / whether it was appropriarte to travel to various places etc).

Trip was great. Tour leader, driver and cook all great. Had to change the trip to get out of Kenya immediately down to Tanzania and do the trip in reverse. Crew coped very well considering the change of plans. Steve great leader, very laid back, Joshua excellent cook and Isa's driving was great over the rough roads and through Serengeti, avoiding the acacia trees when we were sitting up above the cab.
