On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.

This trip was handled on the ground by acacia. I have already e-mailed to voice my concerns about this firm. The leader was ok but the truck and equipment were in very poor shape. The truck was old, leaked badly. It flooded several times, soaking my clothes and on on occasion the safe actually flooded nearly wrecking all my documentation and money. The house battery on the truck was useless. It gave a maximum of 30 mins lighting. More seriously it allowed the freezer to partially defrost, meat had been purchased for many days and was therefore of very dubious quality. One girl was actually admitted to hospital with food poisoning, was it the meat?. The rest of the equipment was of similar poor quality. Tents were old, heavily repaired and leaked. I could go further but I think you can determine that I am not impressed with acacia. I understand you are moving to bundu safaris. I travelled on with them on the Garden Route and they were truly excellent
