Mongolia Travel Information

A leader's perspective...

As a pink dawn cracked overhead, my train crested a hill and I caught my first glimpse of Mongolia. The light turned to gold, revealing a rolling landscape dotted with horses, yaks and camels and my heart leapt at the sight of this rugged, untamed land. Ulaan Bataar (UB to its friends) seemed just as wild. On every corner Chinggis (Genghis) Khan glared down from signs endorsing beer, vodka, hotels and restaurants. And among the palaces, monasteries and old Soviet buildings, nomads wearing traditional ‘del´ tunics strode the wide dusty streets, rubbing shoulders with businessmen dressed in suits and cowboy boots. Beyond the city a world of mountains, deserts and grasslands waited to be explored and I knew that somewhere between Russia and China, I had found the wild west of the Far East.
