To visit Mexico is to be wrapped up in a diverse land of as many vivid landscapes and cultures as there are types of tequila to sample. There's breathtaking desertscapes complete with cacti and rolling tumbleweed, stunning volcanoes and jungle settings with howling monkeys and gorgeous birds, wondrous ruins of ancient cultures, vibrant colonial towns that are just too cool for words, Mayan villages still living according to ancient traditions. Then there's the beaches! This is a country heaving with diversity and colour and crying out to be experienced the Intrepid way. Come and be charmed by the real Mexico - tequila sampling optional - although I recommend the margaritas. Sharp and salty, as the locals have them.

Celebrate Mexico
Stroll through one of Mexico's city plazas on any given Sunday afternoon and you will witness an intermingling of classes and cultures, but be there for a festival and you can expect to witness the country's most colourful celebrations. Around every corner lies evidence of Mayan and Aztec heritage and each month the ancestry of Mexico is celebrated. In September in San Miguel de Allende it's the Running of the Bulls festival. The start is signalled by pre-dawn fireworks, but soon to follow is the real macho highlight - a rigorous test of endurance, when last man standing wins! November is dedicated to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Staggering candy offerings are made at the graves of relatives around the country and the most flamboyant celebrations are held in Mexico City and the states of Michoacan or Oaxaca.
