To watch the sun set over the Old Town walls of Dubrovnik is a magical experience, but only one of many amazing moments that await you in Croatia. With clean, clear water lapping its 1,100 islands, Croatia is a sun lover's paradise. I love exploring the many offshore islands, meeting the friendly locals and sampling the amazing fresh seafood. But for those whose interests lie off the beach, how about exploring (and staying in) a 1,700-year-old Roman palace in Split, learning traditional recipes from the owner of an agri-farm or sampling the famous Istrian truffles in Rovinj after a bike ride along the coast? Croatia has something to charm every visitor. When are you going to fall under her spell?

A good viewpoint on Dubrovnik

During the war in the Balkans in the 1990s, there was extensive damage to Dubrovnik's buildings and infrastructure, including the old cable car that used to take tourists up the hill. Though the city has seen extensive restoration work take place since then, the cable car remains a thing of the past. Now only those people who brave the steep climb get to experience the spectacular views overlooking the town. High above the city, it is so quiet, and you can see the city walls, the steep streets, the while stone buildings and all the church spires and domes, the Adriatic Sea and the islands in the distance. Take a bottle of champagne and some snacks up here and linger over brunch while taking in the scenery.

Dubrovnik Pizza Picnic

A favourite pastime of mine in Dubrovnik is to go to the best pizzeria in town, order enough pizzas for my whole group, buy a few bottles of wine, and take it all down to the little fishing harbour near our accommodation and enjoy a picnic. This lights illuminate the city walls, the tourists are all tucked into their restaurants while we have the view to ourselves. The Croatians borrowed their pizza recipe from the Italians next door, so it's top notch, and the wine is also fantastic. This is a great way to eat on the cheap while enjoying priceless views.
