Intrepid talks about enjoying real life experiences on our trips - well the best thing is it doesn't stop there, as working with them is a real experience too! I started in the travel industry over 20 years ago (when I was six!) and I can honestly say I've found my niche with a company that matches my philosophies about responsible travel and enjoying the wonderful world in which we live.

I joined the reservations team at Intrepid 8 years ago, primarily to set up our new Intrepid Independent China trips, then that led to expanding into India and before I knew it I was at the helm of our Independent range of adventures. From there I took the marketing route, spreading the good word on Intrepid to travel agents, before a sea-change led me to becoming an off-site editor of our Express newsletter.

I've travelled to every continent except Antarctica (but that's on the list!) and it's a thrill to share my own tales in Express, as well as chatting to travellers from around the globe who have a similar passion for discovering the weird and wonderful places on our planet. Send me an email if you've got a story to tell, because I know Express readers would love to hear it too! intrepidexpress@intrepidtravel.com

I started off travelling with Intrepid in 1996 on a trekking trip to Northern Thailand. On that 8 day trip I became hooked on the Intrepid style of travel and it saw me booking 2 more trips in the following couple of years. After my 3rd trip, which was an Exploratory Adventure in China, I realised that I wanted to be out there leading trips for Intrepid. I filled in all the application forms and a few months later I was heading off to China to start the new season in the Middle Kingdom - it was a fantastic time to start as it was Chinese New Year in 2000 and I saw in the Year of the Dragon.

During my 3 years as I leader I got to venture far and wide, all over China, Tibet, Mongolia, Russia, Central Asia and also Thailand. One day I decided that I didn't want to take all my belongings to work anymore and so it was time to head to Melbourne and join the Intrepid Sales team back in the office. I've been here 3 years now and one of the things I really enjoy is talking to prospective travellers about our trips and seeing the excitement and enthusiasm when they head off on their first Intrepid Adventure.

After teaching for 8 years and travelling in my school holidays I knew I had to find a job that allowed me to travel! The problem was I didn't want to find any old travel job, I wanted something I was going to love and a company I was proud to be part of. Not an easy find. I started with Intrepid in 2000 after being a passenger on our 2nd ever India trip, it was in Varanasi that I realised I had caught the Intrepid 'bug'.

Intrepid was who I wanted to work for and lucky for me I was offered a job! My first job was in our Intrepid Independent department and general sales agent, after a year I then moved on to be our Latin America coordinator. After 2 years in Melbourne I then moved to the USA to open Intrepid's first office.

My current role as Intrepid's USA Account Manager is to take care of our preferred agents from contracting down to agent training and sales calls and problem solving. I am lucky enough to also 'try' out our trips and list India, Cambodia, Morocco and Antarctica as my favorite places. I have been to all 7 continents:- drank vodka in Russia, sailed the Nile, hiked the Inca trail, sat with penguins in Antarctica, enjoyed Khmer curry in Cambodia and sang with a Berber family in Morocco... what is next who knows - all I know is 5 years ago I didn't think I would be working for such an amazing company who have given me opportunities to do some fantastic jobs and visit some breathtaking places - as I say to my family and friends - it is a tough job but someone has to do it!

I was lucky enough to grow up in rural Australia and spent a lot of my childhood on horseback and doing farm chores and very definitely in the great outdoors! I remember as a young adult calling back home to tell my folks I had just booked to go on a 22 week overland trip in Africa as my first overseas jaunt. Soon afterwards it was a call home from London to say I was off with a one-way ticket to Nepal traveling with a girlfriend and would travel back to Europe overland via India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and wherever I could get to with the meager funds I had saved for the trip.

When I called them up to tell them I had been employed to lead tours for Intrepid in Asia they were hardly surprised. That was in 1994 and was the beginning of my working life in tourism rather than as a traveller. And what a time it has been. For almost three years I shared experiences with Intrepid travelers in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam before hanging up my (fulltime) trekking boots to work out of Intrepid's HQ in Melbourne. With time spent in several different jobs and departments and after some post-grad study, I headed offshore to start up Intrepid's sales and marketing office in the US.

Nearly 12 years from my original job interview in a cafe in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, I still feel as excited about working for such a great company as I did back then and marvel at the opportunities working for Intrepid have presented to me. I wonder what's next...

Leaving a job in veterinary research 22 years ago, I trekked for weeks across the vast interior of Australia and decided a life of exploration was the one for me. I've since lived for exploring wild places and new destinations. That trek was a first step on a long journey, travelling and working all over Australia, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Seven years ago I met some Intrepid groups and was really impressed with their travel style and ethics. Since then the journey has been with this fantastic company firstly as a tour leader - heading to places and experiences as diverse as spending a night in a yurt with a local family on the high pastures of Kyrgyzstan to spending 3 days on a cargo boat floating down the Mekong River. And now another exciting journey has begun for me as Manager for our newest region - Australia Pacific. I'm looking forward to setting up great new trips and running them here in true Intrepid style.
